Craig Johnson and Maria Temnyuk
– Founders and Directors of Diamond Property & Wealth

You've done everything right. So why does wealth still feel so far away?
Hi — Maria here, financial adviser and co-founder of Diamond Property & Wealth. I'm going to talk you through this page myself, the same way I would if you were sitting across the table from me. So — shall we start the conversation?
For the last ten, fifteen years, you've done everything you were supposed to do.
You built the career, and between the two of you, your household now earns a multiple six-figure income. You started the family. You got yourselves onto the property ladder, you've been paying down a mortgage every month since, and chipping away at your KiwiSaver in the background the whole time.
And yet actual wealth — the kind that gives you real choices — is moving at a glacial pace.
It's not because you haven't tried. It's because:
-
The skills you've developed to grow your income are different from the skills it's going to take to build a seven-figure net worth
-
Weekends are full of kids' sport, school runs and a household to run — there's no spare hour to sit down and sort the money out properly, so it just feels chaotic instead
-
Some of your beliefs about money were never really yours — they were handed down from your parents, and they're quietly capping what you think is even possible
If any of this sounds like you — you're in exactly the right place.
Who we're for
We work best with people who don't have time to waste — and, frankly, don't expect to either.
Typically, that looks like:
-
Established professionals and busy, dual-income households for whom money isn't really the constraint anymore — time and clarity are. Between careers, kids, school runs and a packed calendar, you want to be properly guided through every decision, not handed a spreadsheet and left to work it out alone.
-
People with at least a 10-year runway to retirement, where there's genuinely enough time left to ride out a full economic cycle and let a coordinated strategy compound properly.
-
Retirees navigating decumulation — the genuinely tricky art of drawing your wealth down at the right pace, so it lasts as long as you need it to, without leaving you short or leaving too much sitting idle and going to waste.
-
People who already hold an investment portfolio and simply want a sharper, more strategic opinion on whether it's actually working as hard for them as it should be.
If any of that sounds like you, this is exactly who we built Diamond Property & Wealth for.
Every plan starts the same way: with strategy, built around your goals, resources and risk profile — not with a product. Strategy first. Wealth follows.

Here's exactly what we do for our clients:
-
Build the strategy first — based on your goals, resources and risk profile, before any product or investment enters the conversation
-
Choose the right vehicles to execute it — investment-grade property sourced from vetted, reputable developers, when property is the right tool for your goal
-
Review existing portfolios and underperforming KiwiSaver funds, and recommend better-performing alternatives matched to your actual risk profile
-
Run 12-month financial coaching for people who need real structure and accountability, not just a plan sitting in a PDF
-
Plan the decumulation phase for retirees — structuring withdrawals so your wealth supports the lifestyle you want for as long as you need it to
-
Implement everything ourselves — coordinating providers, setting up investments — so it actually happens instead of sitting in your inbox
Our story: why we actually do this
I used to think building wealth meant one of three things: having serious savings already, earning a multiple six-figure income, or having a finance degree and working in the industry.
Then at 18, I learned that New Zealanders could buy a brand-new investment property for $22 a week. That one fact changed everything for me. My first question was simple: why isn't everyone doing this?
The answer was even simpler: people just didn't know.
That became my mission — not to convince people to take big risks, but to show them what was already possible, if someone just explained it properly.
Over the years, property investment became more mainstream, but I kept seeing the same gaps everywhere: people quietly hoarding cash in the bank earning almost nothing, sitting in underperforming KiwiSaver funds nobody had ever reviewed, making financial decisions one at a time instead of as a coordinated plan. Money left on the table, over and over, simply because nobody had shown them otherwise.
That's still what gets me out of bed — not selling a service, but closing the gap between what people could be doing with their money and what they actually know to do.
Our Philosophy

We believe in living well today, not just "someday."
Too many people treat wealth like a reward you only get to enjoy in retirement — sacrifice now, live later. We believe your money is meant for living your best life starting today, not in twenty years' time once everything's "sorted" — which means you can build wealth and still travel overseas, keep your country club membership, and not give up your Pilates classes to get there.
We're results-driven. Average isn't good enough, and glacial is too slow.
This isn't about small, incremental nudges either. We're after exponential results, not linear ones. We've had a client clear a $29,000 car loan and build a $28,000 investment portfolio from scratch inside 12 months. We've had a household add $200,000 to their financial position in a single year — and we've helped a professional turn a multiple six-figure income into a genuine seven-figure net worth. That's the pace we hold ourselves to, because "glacial" was never the plan.
We make money fun — not intimidating.
Investing has a reputation for being complicated and boring — we don't buy that. We demystify it and show you exactly how simple it can be — simple enough that you could genuinely be funding your investment portfolio while standing in the queue at the supermarket checkout. Once your strategy is properly set up, managing it takes about two hours a year. Simple, easy, and yes — actually a bit fun.

Our Credentials
We don't expect you to take our word for it,
so here's the official version.
Maria Temnyuk — Bachelor of Commerce (Economics & International Business), University of Auckland. Licensed financial adviser and financial coach. Member of Financial Advice NZ and the Financial Dispute Resolution Service. FSP434706 — check it on the public register yourself.
Craig Johnson — Craig built his original construction business from a 15-year-old apprentice into a company of around 200 people, turning over $60 million a year, including major work on the Christchurch earthquake rebuild. From there, his career moved into consulting — working with national and international clients across both residential and commercial building projects. All up, he's been a successful business owner for more than two decades, and today he's also an investor and landholder in his own right.
Craig is not a registered financial adviser, and he doesn't provide financial advice to clients. What he brings instead has been paramount to this business's success: relationships with some of the biggest builders and developers in the country, built over two decades, the kind of insider knowledge of the building industry that simply isn't available from outside it, and a willingness to make the hard calls — when a property matter genuinely needs resolving in our clients' favour, Craig is the one who picks up the phone. Unlike Maria, who's involved with clients day-to-day, Craig works mostly behind the scenes, focused on the strategic moves that shape where the business goes next.

And here's the part most advisers won't admit
Just before we started Diamond Property & Wealth, I was a single mum with $85,000 of consumer debt and no savings — and most of that wasn't an accident. Just like many people, I wanted the lifestyle before I'd actually built the wealth to support it.
But thanks to the knowledge I gained and the skills I developed, I didn't just pay off that consumer debt — I also built a successful investment portfolio that will let me retire in my early-to-mid fifties.
Here's the part I'll still admit, even now: I genuinely love the finer things in life. Good dinners, good wine, things that feel a little luxurious. If I'm honest, that pull still makes my own financial planning challenging at times — wanting it all today versus building it properly for the long run.
I tell you this because it means I'm not coaching you from some distant, disciplined high ground. I know exactly what it feels like to want the lifestyle now, and how easily "looking rich" can quietly replace "becoming wealthy." That's exactly why I can sit across from a client and actually relate to them — not just advise them.
Start with a Conversation
We keep the first step simple so you can decide comfortably whether this is the right fit.
Step 1 — Complimentary 30-minute chat
A short conversation to understand your situation, what you're trying to achieve, and whether we can genuinely help. No preparation needed — just clarity on both sides.
Step 2 — Strategy Consultation (2 hours)
A deep working session where we map your financial position, explore your options, and outline what a structured financial plan would look like for you. This is where most people experience the first real shift — because their finances stop feeling abstract and start becoming measurable.
