How much deposit do I need to buy an investment property?

If you are buying an existing property then you need a 30% deposit to buy it as investment property.

If you are buying a brand-new house as an investment property (Code Compliance has to be less than 12 months old and you need to buy it directly from a developer) then you only need 20%.

The best news is most investors in NZ do not actually come up with a cash deposit to buy investment properties. Instead they utilise equity in their own home.
